Custom Covers FAQ

Custom Trailer and RV Cover FAQ’S

What is the Sunbrella fabric made out of?

  • Sunbrella® is solution dyed which means the color is placed into the fibers as it is extruded. Sun, wind or rain will never diminish the color intensity. Furthermore, Sunbrella® is made out of acrylic so that unlike many other fibers, it resists moisture/mildew, and won’t harden or crack.

What is the Tyvek Rv fabric made out of?

  • Tyvek® is DuPont's brand of spun-bonded olefin - a high-tech fabric created by DuPont from high-density polyethylene (HDPE).

Can you make a custom cover in the Aqua-Shed fabric?

  • Custom covers are only made with the Sunbrella or the Tyvek Rv fabrics.

Custom covers cost much more than Universal fit covers. What are the benefits of having a custom cover?

  • Custom covers have a higher UV protection rating. Tyvek has a 99.8% and Sunbrella has a 98% UV protection rating. These covers have a longer warranty at 4 years for Tyvek and 5 years for Sunbrella. However, the lifespan of the covers is a lot longer, given that you take care of the cover and protect it from sharp corners and edges on your RV. The “Cover Tips” section on our website offers some helpful suggestions as how to protect your cover and prolong its life.
  • If you are planning on keeping your RV for quite some time, you may want to consider investing in a custom cover, especially if you store your RV outside in the intense, direct sunlight, exposing the RV to damaging UV rays. Our custom covers will last for many years.

How wide is the fabric you use on your custom covers?

  • The fabric for our custom covers is cut in 120" widths. The benefit of having the custom fabric cut this wide is to create a stream-lined look on the RV and reduce the amount of seams. Typically our covers are made with a one-piece roof and two one-piece sides.

  Are your RV covers waterproof?

  • No they are not. Our RV covers are 100% breathable. You don't want a waterproof RV cover. A waterproof cover will trap moisture underneath the fabric and may cause mold and rust.

I have a 45 foot trailer. Can you make a cover for it?

  • We can make custom covers for any size RV. Custom covers are made to tailor fit your RV’s exact year, make, model, body contours and specific side and rear door placements. Our pattern designer has many RV measurements on file. If he does not have your specific RV’s measurement he will attain the measurements by contacting the RV manufacturer or you. If he contacts you, he will do so when he is ready to start making your cover. He may fax or email you a measurement sheet to fill out or ask you to take and email him digital photos of your RV.

I have a stacker trailer. Can you make a cover for it?

  • Yes. We can make a custom cover for your stacker trailer. The Sunbrella and Tyvek RV fabric we use is 120in wide therefore we will add the extra fabric to the bottom of the cover.

I have a "V" nose trailer. Can you make a cover for it?

  • Yes we can make a custom cover in our Sunbrella or Tyvek RV fabric.

I have two air conditioning units on the top of my RV. How will the cover fit on my RV?

  • When we make custom covers we allow for enough fabric to cover the air conditioning units, without having to create pockets for the units.

How do I wash my cover?

  • You can use a regular garden hose to rinse off the cover while it is on your RV. Leave the cover on until it dries completely before you remove the cover to store it.

How do the doors on the cover stay open and secured while my RV doors are open?

  • Velcro tabs are sewn into the fabric of the cover above the door placements. After you roll up the fabric door, attach the Velcro tabs at the top of the door to secure it in place.

I live in a HIGH UV area. What fabric would be the best for my RV?

  • Our Sunbrella fabric with a UV protection of 98% or our Tyvek RV with a UV protection of 99.8% stands up against damaging UV rays. Both fabrics have a much higher UV protection than the Aqua-Shed fabric.

How do you put on the cover?

Please visit our cover tip page.

How long does it take to put on a trailer cover?

  • The average time it may take to cover your trailer is estimated between 20 – 30 minutes.

Can I run my air conditioning unit and refrigerator while the cover is on my RV?

  • NO! This is very dangerous and could cause a fire.

Can I leave my cover on while I tow my RV?

  • NO! These covers are not meant to be used in transit. The force of the wind will cause billowing and tearing, and will likely destroy the cover.

How long will it take to make my custom cover?

  • Custom covers take approximately 6-7 weeks to complete, depending on how many orders are ahead of yours. During our busy seasons, it may take 8 weeks to complete.
